XRick

Rick Dangerous for the Maemo Platform

Rick Dangerous was a popular game for the Atari 16-bit and Commodore computers in the 80's

Xrick is a clone written to play on most platforms (see http://www.bigorno.net/xrick/) This is my port of this great game to maemo.

Download the package: (updated to repair post install script problem-oops!) xrick-021212-3.armel.deb

The game is installed to /usr/games, but the data file is then moved off to mmc2 (.media/mmc2/share/xrick) and is loaded from there. (the data file is 1.5Mb) so you need about 2Mb free to install but it only occupies about 150kb when installed.

You can change the location of the data file by editing the /usr/games/xrick script (there is a -data /media/mmc2/share/xrick/data.zip switch in the script that can be changed to point anywhere)

Fullscreen is controlled by the fullscreen key, the dpad moves and arms weapons (when pressing the center button) The cheats (infinite lives, ammo and invulnerability) are controlled by the - and + keys. Sound can be muted with the menu key. the escape key quits.

Controls (shamelessly lifted from http://www.bigorno.net/xrick/)

Through the game, use the joystick, the arrow keys, or these commands to control Rick:

  UP
[O]

LEFT
[Z]
FIRE
[SPACE]
RIGHT
[X]
  DOWN
[K]

FIRE+LEFT, FIRE+RIGHT = poke a wall (or anything else) with your stick ; FIRE+DOWN = lay a stick of dynamite ; FIRE+UP = fire a bullet.

I have the speed left at the default of 75, it can be raised (or lowered) by adding a switch to the script  -speed x where x is a number between 1(fast) and 100(slow) I find it enjoyable at 75 since the N800's controls are not suited to the rapid movement necessary for this game at high speeds.

Enjoy!
